The intercity twinning between Middlesbrough & Masvingo aims to develop the two cities and influence by working in partnership with universities colleges, secondary and primary schools and cultural organisations. The education and culture portfolio for MMA aims to and priorities the following:

• To develop collaborative engagement between educational bodies in Middlesbrough and Masvingo towns.

• Knowledge and innovation:  knowledge economy; research and innovation; education and learning and smart specialisation.

• Foster social and academic enrichment programmes in schools, colleges and universities between the two towns.

•  Attract overseas students to the towns as a source of revenue and as ambassadors of the

• to encourage the study of culture, art, literature and language of twinned cities for better understanding between citizens;

•  to invite people of the twinned towns to undertake visits, and specifically encourage families or associations in the towns to accept the families from other towns as guests in order to observe the life style of citizens closely and to identify common problems and solutions;

• to promote exchange visits of experts and practitioners in education, culture and sports

• Youth exchange programmes and cultural links to promote international understanding, goodwill and enrichment of culture, gender equity, social inclusion and sustainable development amongst the youth.
